A severe thunderstorm watch issued for the West Kootenay and Grand Forks was ended by Environment Canada at 5:06 p.m. today.
This morning, Environment Canada warned there could be severe thunderstorms, large hail and damaging winds in the Grand Forks and West Kootenay area this afternoon and evening.
"Conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms this afternoon and evening," Environment Canada said in a high priority bulletin. "Potential exists that some of these thunderstorms may become severe. The main threat from these thunderstorms will be strong gusty winds and large hail."
Currently, it is 34 C in Grand Forks with a low of 15 C forecast for tonight, although Environment Canada still says there is a risk of thunderstorm early this evening.
