A semi-tractor trailer was forced on to the curb on Highway 3 east of Grand Forks after hitting a bear shortly after 6 a.m. on Thursday.
“The truck and trailer ended up east-bound up on top of the no-post overlooking the river near the bridge by Roxul,” said RCMP Staff Sgt. Jim Harrison.
It took several hours for wreckers to get the unit down. During that time, traffic was reduced to single-lane.
No other vehicles were involved and no charges were laid, said Harrison. The driver sustained minor injuries to his wrists.
The bear, however, did not survive the collision leaving behind at least one orphaned cub.
