Severe thunderstorm watch for Grand Forks and Boundary for July 26 ended

A high priority, severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for the Boundary area, including Grand Forks.

There is a potential for severe thunderstorms today (July 26) with large hail and damaging winds, according to a weather warning from Environment Canada.

"The airmass is once again unstable however low level dynamics are increasing. Consequently the development of thunderstorms is likely across much of the interior. Over the mentioned areas severe thunderstorms are possible with heavy rain, strong winds and large hail," the warning read.

Winds are expected be light except for "gusting to 70 km/hr near thunderstorms early this evening."

According to the Weather Network's website, as of 3:13 p.m. on July 26, the temperature was 30 C.

Environment Canada is forecasting a low of 16 C for Thursday night with a 60 per cent probability of precipitation and a chance of showers or thunderstorms.

Environment Canada advises people to monitor weather conditions and to take the proper safety precautions should threatening weather approach.

A severe thunderstorm watch was also issued prior to Friday's wind storm, which took the life of a camper at Pines Bible Camp in Grand Forks and caused power outages and damage.
