I am honoured to be able to serve a second term as a school trustee.  This term I hope to work towards a culture of greater transparency and accountability in our district.

These are the foundations on which trust is built.

We are often criticized by our partner groups and the public for not meeting modern expectations of openness expected of public bodies.

These are exciting times in public education. We are being encouraged by the Ministry of Education to be innovative in how, what and where we teach, focusing on individual student needs, involving parents in their children’s education and developing more creativity in our students.

In order to make these kinds of changes, we need the mutual support and trust of all involved.

This kind of change can’t be made in a top-down way.  It’s the job of trustees to create a climate where our partners feel safe to risk change.

I feel that the board of education can do a much better job of being proactive and supporting our partners.

We need to change how we operate and open ourselves up to more input.  We need to be change agents; we need to grow heroes.

– Vicki Gee is an incumbent trustee and has been elected as trustee for Area E – Kettle Valley West by acclamation
