View Grand Forks vandalism spree in a larger map
On May 9, between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m., there were a string of overnight incidents of rocks being thrown through windows of vehicles and homes in Grand Forks.
“Somebody was driving around and we think it was the same suspect,” explained Grand Forks RCMP Staff Sgt. Jim Harrison. “We’re interested in a brown Ford pickup truck. It’s a possible suspect vehicle though we’re not sure.”
At 7 a.m., it was reported that a rock was thrown through the rear and side window of a canopy of a pickup truck on 7th Street.
At 7:10 a.m., it was reported that sometime around 4 a.m., someone threw a rock through a residence on Como Road.
At 8:07 a.m., police received a report of a broken decorative light in the front of a home on Eagle Ridge Road.
It occurred sometime between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m., though no one saw or heard anything.
At 8:35 a.m., there was another report that someone had thrown a rock through the rear window of Chrysler Intrepid on Kettle River Road.
There was $400 worth of damages.
RCMP also believes that a report made at 8:46 a.m. was done by the same people.
Somebody cut the soft top of a vehicle and stole a stereo faceplate on Industrial Parkway.
A fibre glass sub box, an amplifier and a battery were stolen and it is estimated that in total, $3,000 worth of items stolen were from the vehicle.
At 9:18 a.m., there was another report that somebody threw a rock through the windshield of a truck on Central Avenue.
Later that day, police received another report that somebody threw a rock through a windshield on 75th Avenue.
There was $300 worth of damages.
“We believe all of them are linked and probably the same perpetrators who had access to a vehicle because it was widespread throughout the community,” said Harrison.
On the May 10, there was another string of events reported, this time involving vandalized mailboxes
“These are all similar, two on Granby Road, one on McCallum View Road, one on 73rd Avenue, one on Hardy Mountain Road, two off North Fork Road and one on Carson Road,” said Harrison. “Somebody went on a spree pushing over mailboxes.”
According to Harrison, police received information provided from someone who was up at 3 a.m. and saw a brown Ford pickup truck driving around.
“Anybody with any information on any of these willful damages we’d love to hear from them to put an end to this nonsense,” he added.
