RCMP: Beware of black '86 Renault Alliance around elementary schools

Grand Forks RCMP are warning parents to be on the lookout after a male was reported lurking around Perley Elementary School.

Grand Forks RCMP are warning people, particularly parents, to be on the lookout after a male was reported lurking around Perley Elementary School.

According to Staff Sgt. Jim Harrison, a man was seen in a 1986 black Renault Alliance convertible, with a tan brown soft top, in the Grand Forks, B.C. school's parking lot.

"We happened to track that vehicle down. (The man) wasn't doing anything illegal at the time but we did identify the person and find out that he's currently under investigation for an incident in Penticton which causes us some deep concerns," Harrison told the Grand Forks Gazette.

He said that the person was apprehended outside of Castlegar and while there were no charges laid, the man remains a "person of interest" to the police.

The male is said to stand 5-11, weigh 201 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

"We forwarded a photo of the vehicle and description and a caution to (SD51 Supt. Michael Strukoff), who spread it out to all the schools in our area plus the other Kootenay school districts," Harrison went on to say.

He said that the schools have been advised to contact the RCMP immediately should the vehicle show up around their properties.

The Grand Forks RCMP can be contacted at 250-442-8288.
