POLICE REPORT: Youth lob snowballs at cars by Granby Road in Grand Forks

Youth were seen throwing snowballs at passing cars on Dec. 17. RCMP say it is a dangerous practice that could lead to serious injury.

Battery stolen from car

A vehicle battery stolen from a 1982 Jeep Wagoner was reported on Dec. 14 at 8:53 a.m.

The vehicle was parked on Riverside Drive, and it is suspected the battery was taken between 9 p.m. the previous evening and 5 a.m.

“Somebody popped the hood of the vehicle and stole the battery out of it,” stated Grand Forks RCMP Staff Sgt. Jim Harrison.

“It’s kind of rare, we don’t often get those.”

Snowballs lobbed at cars

Youth were seen throwing snowballs at passing cars from the bridge by Granby Road on Dec. 17 at 6:18 p.m.

“The kids were already gone by the time we got there,” said Harrison.

“However, we’d like to warn people that that’s a dangerous practice and could end up in a serious vehicle accident where somebody can be injured.”

Warnings issued during road checks

On Dec. 14, a road check was conducted on Central Avenue at 10 p.m.

A written warning was issued, as well as a no-seatbelt ticket. “There wasn’t any impaired drivers, which is a good thing,” stated Harrison.

Another road check conducted on Spraggett and 16th Avenue saw two warnings on Dec. 17.

“We’ve done a couple of road checks and haven’t found too much,” said Harrison. “Everyone has been pretty good.”
