POLICE REPORT: RCMP advising people to lock cars

Incidents on Riverside Drive, Boundary Hospital and 10th Street in Grand Forks have Grand Forks RCMP reminding people to lock their cars.

Trailer logging accident and missing hunter

A logging truck rolled over early in the morning on Jasper Road on Sept. 28. Police suggested that the trailer hung off the road on the right and caused the entire vehicle combination to shift its weight to the right.

According to Harrison, “The bunk of the lead power unit appears to have failed as the threads to the king pin nut, which is required to be nailed to the king pin, was in fact striped of threads.”

This caused the logging truck to roll over with its load of logs. The driver sustained very minor injuries.

“We strongly suspect that the accident is due to driver error and so far no charges are laid,” said Harrison.

At 3:03 p.m., there was a report of a missing hunter at the 43 kilometre mark of the North Fork Road.

The hunter had been separated from his party and subsequently a helicopter was called in from Kelowna to help locate the man.

“The helicopter located the man, picked him up and reunited him with the rest of his hunting party,” said Harrison.

The hunter was found to be in good health and was not injured, though he was confused and lost after being separated.

CDs missing from vehicle

CDs were reported missing from a parked car on Riverside Drive at 10 a.m., from an unlocked vehicle on Sept. 26.

Grand Forks RCMP’s Staff Sgt. Jim Harrison cautioned people to lock their vehicles up and remove property from sight so it doesn’t get stolen.

Wallet stolen from unlocked vehicle

A wallet was stolen from a car parked at the Boundary Hospital on 22nd Street in Grand Forks on Sept. 29.

The vehicle was left unlocked and the wallet was placed under the seat, with the theft sometime around 6 a.m.

Items taken from parked car

Another vehicle theft occurred at 11:08 a.m. on 10th Street to a parked car outside the owner’s residence.

The theft occurred between 11:30 p.m. and 10 a.m. on Oct. 2.

Stolen items include a MP3 adapter, $5 in change and two sets of cordless headphones.

There are no suspects or witnesses at this time, and neighbours have said they did not see anything.

“Again, we’re cautioning people. Please take property out of your vehicle or put it out of sight and make sure your vehicle is locked,” Harrison remarked.
