POLICE REPORT: Car collides with race car-carrying trailer

A small vehicle headed eastbound crossed the centre lane on Central Avenue and 11th Street in Grand Forks, hitting a truck with a trailer.

At 9:05 p.m. police stopped a vehicle headed westbound on Highway 3 between Christina Lake and Grand Forks for speeding. Cpl. Richard Lanz, of the Grand Forks RCMP, said that the car was stopped because it was going 130 kilometres per hour.

Police found that the driver appeared to be impaired and after roadside testing, the 53-year-old Christina Lake man was found to be over the limit. He received a 90-day driving prohibition and 30-day impound.

Sometime overnight a vehicle was entered and rummaged through. The vehicle had been unlocked and so Lanz warned people to lock their doors.

“Nothing appeared stolen or damaged,” Lanz said. “Just a reminder that vehicles should always be left locked.”

At 2:44 p.m. a vehicle speeding at Christina Lake was stopped.

Open liquor was found in the vehicle and seized. A 24-year-old Alberta male was ticketed for the violation.

At 4 p.m. a small vehicle driven by a 32-year-old local man heading east crossed the centre lane on Central Avenue and 11th Street.

A truck going the other way and towing a trailer attempted to pull over when the car swerved. The car then hit the trailer, which was carrying a race car. Lanz estimated that the small car and the race car each sustained $10,000 damage. Charges are pending.
