SUV flips over on Highway 3

Three people suffered injuries in an accident that took place on Highway 3 on Nov. 1.

According to the Grand Forks RCMP, units responded to an accident 15 kilometres east of Christina Lake at 9 a.m. on Nov. 1.

A black 2000 GMC Jimmy, which had been towing a boat, had flipped on its roof.

The trailer had broken free from the truck and the boat had continued up the road a short distance.

A 65-year-old man from Robson was taken by ambulance to the hospital in Trail while a 50-year-old woman and 48-year-old man (both from Castlegar) were taken by ambulance to Boundary Hospital and were then airlifted to Kelowna.

A release from the RCMP said that currently, the three had injuries of unknown severity.

Two dogs were also injured as a result of the accident and one succumbed to its injuries while the other was taken to veterinarian care in Grand Forks.

RCMP say icy road conditions and driver’s error are believed to have contributed to the accident.

Black ice results in accident

At 8:41 p.m., Midway RCMP Constable Morrison found a red 2000 Ford on its roof after rolling over between Midway and Greenwood on Nov. 8.

The 36-year-old Rock Creek female driver claimed she lost control after hitting a patch of black ice.

She was served with a 24-hour suspension from driving and was taken to the hospital to be checked out.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Jim Harrison recommends the community to go to the DriveBC website.

“There is currently a campaign... called Shift into Winter,” Harrison said. “There is an awful lot of information on that site for things that people can responsibly do to prepare themselves for winter driving, including tips and pointers.”

Harrison added, “It’s this time of the year that is most dangerous because people haven’t adjusted to the more treacherous winter conditions.”
