A truck attempting a U-turn went down an embankment on the evening of June 21 on near North Fork Road.

With this weekend being grad weekend, RCMP were expecting a busy couple of days. Grand Forks RCMP’s Staff Sgt. Jim Harrison said that though there was an after-grad party, things went pretty smoothly. Harrison said they had no real problems.

“Nobody got hurt so we’ll call that a success,” Harrison said. “As long as we don’t lose a grad that’s always the important thing.”

Harrison said that the RCMP brought in extra officers and kept some on overtime to make sure they had enough to keep the weekend activities safe.

June 21 At 2:15 p.m. police received a report that two youths had been stealing real estate signs at Christina Lake. Harrison said they do have suspects and are currently investigating.

Police received a report that the Seniors Centre had been spray-painted. Harrison said that the paint had probably been there for about two weeks and was likely reported due to the article in the June 15 Gazette about graffiti.

Harrison said it has no correlation to the “dissent” design they are currently looking for, and was instead some silver and blue paint.

At 7:35 p.m. an accident was reported when a truck went off-road trying to make a U-turn.

“He tried to do a U-turn on Forester Road, hit the soft shoulder and slid down the bank into the trees,” Harrison said. Airbags were deployed. The passenger sustained minor injuries to the shin. The damage to the truck is estimated at $5,000.

The driver was a 23-year old from Evansburg, Alta.

“I don’t know what he was here for, but he was trying to do a U-turn and obviously didn’t do a good enough job on it and went over the embankment.”

June 23 Graffiti was found on the Selkirk College and MTF building near downtown Grand Forks. This graffiti was also not the design that police are looking for.

At 8:16 a.m. police heard of a theft of some vehicle parts from a Grand Forks residence in the Hardy Mountain area. The complainant had a collection of old Dodge trucks on his property, which were stripped of some of their parts. Taken were circular reflectors, Dodge emblems, Dodge letters and headlight as well as signal light trims.

Harrison said that because of age of the parts, there is no estimate on the value.

June 25 At 9:43 a.m. there was a report that $20 in cash and a Jensen car stereo faceplate were stolen from a vehicle. Harrison said they have no suspects and no witnesses.
