A rare Gibson guitar valued at approximately $8,000 was one of a trio of instruments reported stolen this past week.
On July 25 at 3:53 p.m., RCMP received a report that somebody had entered the guitar owner’s shop on London Road and made off with three guitars.
One is a Gibson koa wood six-string acoustic electric, apparently only 50 of which were ever made, reported Staff Sgt. Jim Harrison.
The other two are a Tradition Renaissance six-string acoustic electric, and a Yamaha G-Series classical six-string acoustic electric.
“We have serial numbers for them all,” Harrison confirmed. “If anyone has any details, please call 250-442-8288 or Crimestoppers.”
Also on July 25, at 6:36 p.m., police received a report of a possible plane crash, Harrison said.
“A person claimed they observed a plane sputtering and went down at a weird angle near Gilpin out towards Christina Lake. Extensive patrols were made by police in the area; our helicopter was brought in to search the area as well.”
The fire department and Search and Rescue were put on standby; bringing in the helicopter earlier, rather than later in the evening, was important to the search.
Police were able to determine who was flying the aircraft and that there was no crash. “It was a person flying a little low over an unpopulated area,” Harrison reported. “Somebody made an assumption that they had crashed.”
Reporting the possible crash was the right thing to do, Harrison said. “The sooner we know about it, the sooner we can act upon it.”
On July 25 at 11:03 a.m., police received a report of a stolen auto.
“The suspect was named by the complainant who claimed his 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer was stolen,” Harrison said.
The vehicle was recovered later that day; a female was in the vehicle with the person who took the vehicle.
“The person responsible was arrested and will be facing charges of taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent,” Harrison confirmed. “We’re also investigating that he may have been under a driving prohibition at the time, so that charge may be recommended as well to Crown counsel.”
On July 24 at 11:19 a.m., police received a report of an electric cooler stolen sometime overnight from the city campground. There are no suspects or witnesses.
On July 22, there was a report that a bench behind Holy Trinity Church had been damaged. The back legs were broken.
It’s unknown when the damage occurred, or by whom; and it may have also been an accident, Harrison reported.
Damage to a sign at the Crow and Beer Pub at Christina Lake was reported Sunday. Apparently overnight someone threw a rock trhough two panes of plexiglas. There are no suspects at this time.
Expect boat checks on area waters: over 20 vessels were checked this past week and warnings and/or tickets issued. Most were for failing to produce a an operator competency card or failing to display the numbers on their vessels, Harrison said.
