The Stop the Violence campaign and marijuana will be a topic of discussion at tonight's Grand Forks city council primary committee meeting.
According to the primary committee meeting agenda for Monday, Aug. 20, there will be a verbal report from Mayor Brian Taylor regarding Stop the Violence campaign.
According to its website, Stop the Violence BC is a coalition of law enforcement officials, legal and academic experts and medical and public health officials concerned about cannabis prohibition and the growth of organized crime and violence in the province.
At a meeting on May 28, Grand Forks city council received a letter from a number of B.C. mayors – regarding criminal activity due to marijuana – as an information item and at that time, it was decided to revisit the topic at a later date as Coun. Neil Krog was not present at the meeting.
The city council begins tonight at 6 p.m. at Grand Forks city hall's council chambers with a public hearing regarding the city's sustainable community plan bylaw, followed by the regular and primary committee meetings.
