Grand Forks as well as Greenwood, Midway and the Regional District of the Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) have received over $800,000 from the strategic community investment fund to invest in local policing and community safety, service and projects.
The announcement was made recently by Linda Larson, Boundary-Similkameen MLA.
“These grants allow small communities to invest into public safety programs in ways that are important to them,” said Larson. “Many or our smaller communities really depend on this funding and it is sometimes the difference between maintaining and dropping them.”
Communities receiving Small Community Grants:
• $315,310 – Grand Forks
• $226,659 – Greenwood
• $202,355 – Midway
Regional District Grant:
• $125,740 – Kootenay Boundary
John MacLean, chief administrative officer for the RDKB said the money is a regular occurrence and goes into the general government fund.
MacLean’s counterpart with the City of Grand Forks Doug Allin said the funding is identifited as revenue as part of the financial plan which was adapted by council.
“The annual grant is an important piece to our budget that has been reduced from years past,” he said. “This funding as it outlines is used for covering a portion of the operating costs.”
