Lilgert pleads not guilty to criminal negligence causing death in Queen of the North sinking

The man piloting a B.C. Ferry that sunk in 2006 has pleaded not guilty to two charges of criminal negligence causing death.

The man piloting a B.C. Ferry that struck an island and sank in 2006 has entered a not guilty plea regarding two charges of criminal negligence causing death.

Karl Lilgert, who has resided in Grand Forks, is accused of criminal negligence causing death in an incident where the Queen of the North ferry hit Gil Island, which is located on the north coast of B.C.

Gerald Foisy and Shirley Rosette went down with the ferry and their bodies were never recovered – the other passengers and crew survived.

Jury selection has begun for the trial, which is set for Jan. 17 and could last six months.

A call to Lilgert was placed but was not immediately returned.
