A landslide in the West Kootenay community of Vallican on Tuesday has prompted the Regional District of Central Kootenay Emergency Operations Centre to issue evacuation orders and alerts for properties in the area.
In an update Wednesday afternoon, the RDCK said one property (3355 Little Slocan South Road) was under an evacuation order while three others (3300, 3360 and 3364 Little Slocan South Road) had been issued evacuation alerts.
The transportation ministry meanwhile is working on clearing and repairing the road, which it expects to reopen today to local traffic.
An evacuation alert has been issued for another five properties on Little Slocan South Road, meaning residents must be prepared to leave with little to no notice.
