Grand Forks receives second instalment of SCIF grant

The City of Grand Forks received the second part of the province of BC's Small Community Investment Fund (SCIF) grant.

The City of Grand Forks received $391,750 as part of the second instalment of the provincial government’s Small Community Investment Fund (SCIF) grant.

According to Mayor Brian Taylor, the money will be used in city operations.

“It’s part of our regular revenue sharing with the province,” Taylor explained.

“It doesn’t go into a project, it goes into operating costs and various other things, so it’s part of what we get back in terms of what the province takes from everybody.”

The SCIF includes money from the small community and regional district grants and traffic fine revenue sharing program funds, although the city saw nothing from traffic fine revenue – the instalment consisted solely of small community and regional district grants, which are unconditional grants to local governments to assist them in providing basic services.

“The Strategic Community Investment Fund is all about creating safer, healthier, more livable and resilient communities that allow B.C. families to thrive,” explained Ida Chong, minister of community, sport and cultural development, in a release.

“It also gives local governments more certainty about their fiscal future.”
