Thieves with a possible fancy for guns made off with five rifles during one of nine break-and-enters at Christina Lake.

“On the 11th of March, the first of a series of nine break-and-enters into seasonal residences at Christina Lake were reported,” said Harrison.

“The initial incident occurred at about 1:40 a.m., when the (seasonal resident) woke up to find the culprit inside his house.”

The man fled outside the house, got into a waiting dark coloured SUV, driven by another male and they headed out to Highway 3 and headed eastbound,” said Harrison.

“Shortly there after, we got reports of a series of break-and-enters and while out at the scene investigating those, we came across even more.”

RCMP believes they happened on either March 9, 10 or 11.

The break-and-enters happened on East Lake Drive, Brown Road and Page Road.

“In most cases, they were forcible entries into the house, broken windows, pried latches on doors, we have reports of TVs taken and in one particular case they broke into a gun safe and removed five long guns believed to be rifles of some type,” said Harrison.

Seasonal break-ins are not uncommon at Christina Lake, however most times they don’t come to the attention of police until months afterwards when the seasonal residents come back and discover that their place has been broken into, he said. The suspects are believed to be from out of town and the matter is still under investigation.
