Christine Thompson

As a resident, taxpayer and ratepayer of the City of Grand Forks, I have a vested interested in our city.

I have attended the Local Government Leadership Academy training seminars, receiving my Level 2 Certificate at the UBCM in September.

With my 23 years experience working for the city – 21 of those years managing the finance department as deputy treasurer and then treasurer – I have a solid understanding of how municipal government operates.

One of the biggest issues facing our city is our failing infrastructure.

With the electorate’s support of the two referendum questions dealing with the upgrades required to our water, sewer and road infrastructure, I have the ability to work with our management team to ensure that the funds we have to work with are maximized.

I will not support unreasonable rate increases. I will continue supporting The Concerned Citizens for Community Health Care.

As council’s liaison to this committee, I made a presentation regarding the concerns and issues of our community to the Rural Caucus when they met at Broadacres in August and to Interior Health Authority at the UBCM in September.  I will continue supporting childcare issues in our community.

Working parents know that there is more demand than supply and not all childcare providers are willing to accommodate early morning shift starts, late day shift ends or on-call workers.

I will continue to lobby the provincial government on their behalf. I am a team player and will work with your elected council to achieve their goals in addition to mine.

I am prepared to put in the time required to be an effective mayor and will work hard to ensure that our city is one in which we can all take pride.

I am honest, reliable and responsible.  I ask for your support on Nov. 19.
