A local Grand Forks resident won’t have to worry about car payments or having to scrimp and save for that vacation trip to Mexico any time soon after winning the lottery.
Frank Senger is $5 million richer after picking all six numbers (3, 6, 11, 15, 20 and 37) in Lotto 6/49 on Thursday at Pharmasave in Grand Forks.
“I was a little bit surprised,” he told the Gazette. “But I knew it was going to come up one day because I’ve been buying tickets for awhile. I had as good a chance as anyone.”
Senger said he has been buying lottery tickets regularly and has won smaller amounts from time to time.
“I won $1,000 about seven or eight years ago,” he said. “I won a $10 and a few bucks and free plays here and there over the years.”
The odds of correctly picking all six numbers were 1 in 13,983,816.
Senger said he came up with the winning numbers years ago. “I put some numbers in a hat from one to 49 and shook it up good and picked them out randomly. I’ve used those numbers pretty steadily since then.
Senger travelled to the B.C. Lottery Corporation headquarters in Kamloops on Friday where he confirmed that he had the correct numbers. He spoke to the Gazette over the phone from there.
He said he was pretty calm when he found out and that the ladies at Pharmasave were more excited.
“I was pretty excited but I didn’t want to show too much,” said Senger.
Senger said he hasn’t told too many people other than close relatives. He hasn’t made any big plans yet for the money.
“I think I’m just going to bring it home and deposit it in the credit union, I guess,” he said. “I’ll think about it for awhile.”
