With the provincial election fast approaching, Grand Forks' Mayor Brian Taylor has officially entered the Boundary-Similkameen NDP candidate race.

The BC NDP announced nominees for the vacant Boundary-Similkameen candidate spot late Monday night and according to Boundary-Similkameen NDP President Dave Ligertwood, the nominees so far are Taylor, Rhonda Bruce from Oliver and Sam Hancheroff from Kaleden.

There could be more nominees however, as the deadline for additional candidates to seek nomination is this Friday (March 8) at 5 p.m.

The position became available when former NDP riding candidate Marji Basso stepped down from the provincial race in January, shortly after MLA John Slater announced his resignation from the B.C. Liberals.

Slater cited the fact the party refused to endorse his candidacy in the upcoming election and later announced he would not seek re-election.

Bruce and Taylor were the people running for the Boundary-Similkameen position that eventually went to Basso in 2011.

The nomination meeting to select a candidate will take place on Saturday, April 6 with the location to be announced later.
