Flood valves along Riverside Drive in Grand Forks opened

A City of Grand Forks worker reported that someone had opened flood valves along Riverside Drive on April 26.

A City of Grand Forks employee reported to Grand Forks RCMP that someone had opened flood valves along Riverside Drive on April 26, 11:02 a.m.

The valves allow water to flow onto the other side of the dike, possibly flooding homes and properties.

“We’re patrolling the area to make sure the valves aren’t open because it could cause some really big problems,” explained Grand Forks RCMP Staff Sgt. Jim Harrison.

“Currently due to high river levels, the valves are under the water so someone would have to dive into the river to open it. It shouldn’t be a problem now, but we do have concerns about someone messing around with those valves and it could have caused problems.”
