Fashionistas raise funds at annual Greenwood show

Clothes from Senior’s Society thrift store focus of charity event

The Greenwood Seniors Society Thrift Store showed it could be a haven for those looking to add the latest trends and classics to their wardrobe at their annual fashion show and fundraiser on Friday.

Ladies donned outfits from the thrift store’s inventory, with themes of summer casual, formal, retro, boho and even a layering demonstration to show how outfits could go from casual, to business meeting, to formal dinner date with just a few additions. All the while, Yellow Door proprietor Heather Smith kept the show going, explaining how each piece worked, including details like how each look suited the model’s body type, age, height and comfort level.

Some accessories were provided by The Yellow Door women’s boutique.

She stressed that while trends come and go, it’s always wise for ladies to have a few classic pieces, like shrugs (loose-fitting and drapey shawl with sleeves), scarves, shawls and a few high-quality pieces and accessories that stand up to time and changing styles, as trends come in and out of fashion, like the current trend of animal prints, ethnic patterns from Africa, boho-style frilly and flowing tops and large purses and bags.

Originally, the show was supposed to be a fundraiser to help the society build an assisted living facility, explained Boundary Senior Association secretary-treasurer Karen Mollison. That never came to fruition, but the association kept the show going to raise funds for itself and other charities.

This year’s recipients from proceeds are: Route3 Racing Motorcycle Club, Boundary Helping Hands Feline Rescue, Boundary Central Secondary School, Greenwood Library, Greenwood Art Club, Founders Day and the Gold Rush Car Show.

There were also prize draws during the event for items including crafts and accessories from The Yellow Door.
