Grade 4/5 students at Christina Lake Elemetnary recently held a cupcake sale as a fundraiser in support of two Syrian families.

On Tuesday, March 2, Grade 4/5 students at Christina Lake Elementary held a cupcake sale as a fundraiser in support of two Syrian families who are proposed to be relocated from Vancouver to Grand Forks.

Cupcakes were sold for $2 or by donation—$196.01 was raised during the sale and other classes will hold fundraising events for these families in the coming weeks.

After the fundraiser, Grade 4/5 students reflected on their experience and it’s their stories which follow.

Student thoughts about the fundraiser:

We would like to thank all the students who participated in the Syrian fundraiser, the staff who helped set everything up and the parents who baked the delicious and beautiful cupcakes.

Today at school we had a fundraiser for Syrian Refugees.  All of the grade 4/5 students were selling cupcakes to all students and staff at the school. A cupcake was $2.00.  Our class raised almost $200.00.  I hope all of us raise enough money for the Syrian refugees.

I think that this fundraiser went super well because it might inspire others to do more fundraisers on their own time, at school, etc.  I’m very happy about our school being able to help these two Syrian families because they’re probably very nice and we could use some friends.  I think that this fundraiser might help the families a lot.  And the good thing is that these families from Syria will be very happy here.  Also, it will be very good for everyone to have more friends!

It went really good and we made lots of money.  The cupcakes were good.  It was fun for the whole school.  It was hard counting the money, but fun.

~Ryley

It went well, but next time we need to know were to be at the right time.

I think that this fundraiser went very well.  I would really like to do all that I can to help these families.  I think that it might have helped them a great deal and I also think that every penny counts.  I want to, but I don’t know if I can, but I would like to try and raise money out of school.  I hope that the school will try to do more things like this to help these families. My dad knows what it is like to move to a completely different country, and he doesn’t talk about it much, but I imagine that it is hard.

People are coming to Christina Lake!  I wonder where they are going to live?  Maybe they are going to live beside me. I wonder what it’s going to be like?  Are they sometimes coming to my house?  I hope they like Christina Lake!

I think the cupcake fundraiser went very good, and it raised about $200.  It is all going towards the two Syrian families that are moving to Grand Forks.  There was a wide variety of cupcakes. Mostly everyone did their jobs that they were assigned.

I thought that most people should have been more prepared, other than that, I think it went really well.  I think it’s really going to help the Syrian refugees.

It went well. This will help with getting $200 dollars. It did exactly what we wanted it to do.  It did raise a lot of money.  It was fun because we worked together. It will help raise money for the Syrian refugees

It felt good getting money for the two families.  It was fun and it was helping.  We earned lots of money and I think that is good.  It was fun so I think we should do it again. It was a great idea to me.
