The City of Grand Forks would like to thank everyone that took time out of their busy schedules to attend the open house on March 12.

There was a great turn out with just over 70 people that took the opportunity to take a look at the projects the city has planned for the downtown core this spring.

The city asked to hear from the public on the changes and work proposed for the downtown core and received some great feedback.

It heard these are issues:

Vacant Buildings Parking Empty store fronts

People support these projects:

Hanging baskets and planters Lighting Seating (benches) Landscape maintenance Recycling/garbage bins Bike racks Repair of sidewalks and roads Tree lights

People would like to see more:

Way finding signage Beautification of the Highway 3 corridor Snow removal Graffiti removal Garbage collection Street cleaning Welcome signs

And this is what you love about Grand Forks:

Friendly atmosphere Heritage buildings Green spaces and parks Slow pace Trees and flowers Great place to walk

The feedback will help the city determine priority areas and items that need attention in Grand Forks.

The city focused on a small area of town to begin work for 2013 but will consider what residents had to say when prioritizing future projects.

People can expect to see the projects identified as most important completed by the end of September. Hanging baskets and planters, street cleaning, lights, landscape maintenance, garbage and recycle bins and seating are underway.

This spring will see work on Third Street begin with traffic calming measures applied and trees, with benches, bike racks and lights to follow.

The city would like to say thank people once again for their feedback.
