Sasha Bird, city manager of technical services and utilities, pointed out that the parking lot has been in need of repair, including the drainage system beneath the parking lot.

“We’re putting in new materials and repaving,” she said. “Across the street, we’re doing some landscaping at City Park. This is a separate council initiative because it didn’t get done as a part of the lift station project.”

At the City Park, workers are creating an amphitheatre look, out near the playground and public washrooms.

“Where the stairs go down the front and each side, there’s a bit of a bank, that’s going to be all planted up and there’s going to be some rocks in there and it’s going to get top-soiled and sodded,” Bird explained. “We’re probably going to be doing some work on the back at the lift station, where all the dirt is.”

Leveling and seeding of the rugby field at City Park has been completed since last fall, but the goal posts still need to be put in place.

City manager of operations Hal Wright noted that some irrigation boxes may need to be brought to the surface, but the field is otherwise done.

“The grading is complete and the grass has taken very well, but we are waiting for dimensions from the rugby organization for the poles,” he said. “That was supposed to be forthcoming early in the season but that hasn’t happened yet.”

The rugby field should be completed by the end of August, stated Wright.
