A presentation on the branding initiative spearheaded by the city’s Economic Development Advisory Committee (EDAC) for the City of Grand Forks was favourably received by the city council committee of the whole on Monday.

Matt Thompson, the representative for Story & Co., presented a new city logo along with a series of sample advertisements for the city that paid tribute to the heritage and character of Grand Forks.

The new Grand Forks logo is a simple design in black and white that Thompson portrayed as “timeless.”

Reading from his presentation, Thompson said, “It gives credit to our past, is contemporary for the present, and possesses flexibility so it can evolve in the future.”

The sample ads demonstrated how the logo, along with catch phrases and traditional photographs, could be used to successfully brand the community.

Most members of the committee felt that the simplicity of the black and white logo would make it flexible in its use and allow easy application to everything from signs to shirts and hats.

The committee recommended that council support the presentation and endorse further public discussion and a motion was passed to accept the brand that night at the city’s regular meeting.

Council passed it unanimously.
