To bring awareness of the newly-opened Boundary Museum to the community, a city council meeting will be held there this coming Monday (July 18).

The meeting will be conducted outside, starting at 5 p.m. under the new shade roof.

Allie Relkoff, marketing events co-ordinator at the Boundary Museum, said that there will be some seating but people are welcome to bring their lawn chairs.

“The purpose is to let more people know about the museum,” Relkoff said.

This is the first city council meeting to be held there but Relkoff said the museum will also be welcoming any groups that need a larger space – the museum can accommodate 60 people – to have their meetings as well. There is no charge this year, just give the museum a call at 250-442-3737.

“If any organizations or businesses want to have their meetings up here, then we’re happy to accommodate them,” she said.

“This is primarily in the summer season.”

Mayor Brian Taylor said that anything to draw attention to the quality of what’s being displayed up there is something council needs to do.

“They’re suffering form signage problems,” Taylor said. “

We need to introduce the community. So if having a council meeting up there will further sensitize council to the importance of it and bring attention to it, that’s basically what we’re aiming at.”

Again, the meeting is at 5 p.m. Monday, July 18 at the Boundary Museum, 6145 Reservoir Road and the City of Grand Forks has arranged transportation to the site, with a shuttle bus (the Interior Health transit service bus) leaving City Hall at 4:30 p.m.

The bus will also transport people back to City Hall after the meeting is over.
