City awards restoration contract for City Hall

The City of Grand Forks has awarded the contract to reconstruct the main floor of historic City Hall.

The City of Grand Forks has awarded Hil-Tech Contracting Ltd. of Trail, B.C. the contract to reconstruct the main floor of historic City Hall.

HiI-Tech Contracting was the lowest bid at $1.21 million among five companies who submitted bids. The company is expected to start work shortly on the restoration project which also includes upgrading to current building code requirements, after a fire damaged the building last fall.

The work is expected to be complete by the end of October.

"This historic building has been a part of our community since 1911. We're looking forward to seeing it restored to its former glory," said Mayor Brian Taylor.

City staff has been working from temporary locations since the fire and will move back to City Hall once the restoration work is complete.

Hil-Tech Contracting has extensive experience in commercial and community projects, including Village of Warfield community hall and City of Trail City Hall renovations.
