As the 2023-24 Border Bruins season wrapped up, the team presented their annual awards to players last week prior to the players getting ready to return home.
Head Coach and General Manager Dave Hnatiuk and team owner Dr. Mark Szynkaruk spoke about the significant achievements of the team throughout the season, but also focused on ongoing efforts into next season to propel the team further toward the ultimate goal of winning the league championship.
In addition to practices and the 44-game regular season schedule, Bruins players participated in dozens of community events throughout the season including weekly “reading program” activities at the local elementary schools, community skate events, and other public functions.
The awards presented represented categories voted on by the players themselves, team staff, and the Bruins loyal fans.
Recipients this year were:
Rookie of the Year - JP Desabrais and Levi Astill
Top Forward - Chad Bates
Top Defenceman - Carter Price
Most Improved - Logan McCabe
Players Choice - Ben Edwards
Fan Favorite - Kade Sicotte
Community Leader - Matthew Dovichak
Most Sportsmanlike - Tyler Burke
Most Valuable Player - Ray Warrack
While many of the players have now returned home, it’s likely many will be seen again at the beginning of April when the Bruins hold their annual spring camp. We expect to see both familiar faces and new recruits at the camp April 5-7, and it will be a sneak peek at players who may be on next fall’s Bruins roster.
