Rod Gustafson’s Broadacres Care Facility on Carson Road is accepting applications for those seeking assisted living.

Broadacres Care Facility is now accepting applications for residents seeking assisted living accommodations.

Rod Gustafson, proprietor of Broadacres and a retired registered nurse, noted that the facility plans on opening on Wednesday, Aug. 1.

Gustafson applied to become an assisted living residence through the Registrar of Assisted Living in Victoria, B.C. at the end of May.

The application process also included a phone interview.

“Everything is done and finalized,” he said. “I’m just getting my clients and staff ready.”

There are 14 beds available at Broadacres, which will now be similar to Boundary Lodge.

“It’ll be a nice home atmosphere with 24-hour staff with a nice rural setting and home cooked meals,” Gustafson said.

With the additional independent beds through Golden Life Management at Silver Kettle Village, Gustafson previously noted that everything is rounded up nicely.

He pointed out that seniors will now have access to multiple levels of care in Grand Forks.

In April 2011, Gustafson received a letter from Interior Health (IH) stating that it would not fund beds at Broadacres despite a request for proposals for 40 residential senior care beds that it made in December 2010 – Golden Life Management was awarded the contract.

Gustafson said he was not happy with the decision seeing as he made a significant investment in the Carson Road care facility, including renovations and the installation of geothermal heating as well.

Located on Carson Road, Broadacres was built in the 1960s and originally operated as a major dairy farm in the valley.
