Sam Hancheroff was born and raised in Grand Forks, attended school there and went to Selkirk College in Castlegar.

In 1971, he moved to Okanagan Falls to start his teaching career at Okanagan Falls Elementary, where he taught for 33 years.

Hancheroff was an active community member volunteering with the OkFalls Fire Department and as an elected trustee for several terms with the Okanagan Falls Irrigation District.

He moved to Kaleden, B.C. in 1993 and again was elected as trustee to the Kaleden Irrigation District. In 2004, he ran for school trustee and was elected to School District 53 as a representative for Okanagan Falls.

He continues to be a member on both boards at this time.

In his capacity as school trustee, Hancheroff travels throughout the district and has numerous occasions to meet with and work with community members.

Overwhelmingly, they express wishes to improve learning opportunities for children and adult learners.

He also regularly hears from community members about issues or concerns that are affecting their health, lifestyle, job opportunities, and political topics.

In addition to these activities, he also manages the family vineyard here in Kaleden, enjoying the opportunity to be involved in the agriculture and viticulture industry.

Hancheroff’s wife Barbra Paterson (a retired school principal) and he have four adult children, and five grandchildren.

They both continue to be actively involved in schools and their community, while greatly enjoying being grandparents.

Sam is proud to be a running as part of Adrian Dix’s BC NDP team in the Boundary-Similkameen.
