Swim, bike, and run – put it all together and you have a triathlon. And yes, we have a local sprint triathlon for beginners here in the Boundary.

Grand Forks Recreation staff are encouraging you to get fit by signing up for the 14th annual Pharmasave Christina Lake Triathlon. You can make it an individual fitness challenge for yourself or get together with your co-workers and friends and make it a fun fitness challenge for your entire workplace. The swim is an 800 metre swim parallel to the public beach, which takes away one of the biggest fears of doing a triathlon. The course is not out into the deep water which can be intimating to some.

The 20 kilometre bike ride is four laps of a five kilometre loop at the south end of the lake. The five kilometre run is out along West Lake Drive, a very scenic route out and back along the shoreline of the lake. The distances are very doable and you have plenty of time to train and be ready to complete the achievable event. The earlybird registrations will only be available until May 1, so call today to commit and start your training. The event takes place on Sunday, June 24 at the public beach at Christina Lake.

There are still spots available in the spring break Swim Kids session. Lessons will be held Monday to Friday from March 19 to March 23.

Did you know that the Grand Forks Aquatic Centre has a tropical heat wave every weekend? It starts on Friday evenings and continues all weekend long. Bring your little ones down and enjoy the increase water temperature for the weekend.
