The weather is beginning to look and feel like spring might actually be making its way to the Boundary.

The seasonal change brings with it an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors in different ways.

Boating is one of those spring and summer activities we get to enjoy in our part of the country. If you’re planning on a spring cruise around the lake in the near future be reminded there are legal requirements to ensure safe boating practice.

One of those requirements is the need for a lifejacket for all people riding in a vessel. A properly fitted lifejacket must be available, whether paddling a canoe or behind the engine of a water ski boat.

Grand Forks Recreation offers a free lifejacket loan program to the public. Sizes range from infant to adult XXL. Whether you are short properly-fitting lifejackets for your group, or need a special size for a guest, give us a call or stop by the recreation office Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and we will “hook you up.”

Warm Water Weekends will continue until May 5. Pool temperature begins to rise on Friday afternoons by two degrees so patrons can enjoy a leisure afternoon swim in comfort on Saturdays and Sundays.

Saturday preschool lessons begin again April 7 and run to May 5. Classes will take place during public swim beginning at 1:15 p.m. Preschool levels 1 to 6 will be offered for ages three to five.

Parent and tot lessons will take place April 7 to May 5. Parents participate in the water with their children six months to five years.

It’s never too early to set children up for success and safety in and around water. Register your child today for Red Cross swim lesson. For information call us at 250-442-2202.
