Old Fashion Skate fast approaching

Hey Canada! On Sunday, Dec. 10 let’s skate from coast to coast to coast! We are at home on the ice so let’s lace up together to enjoy our favourite winter activity and to celebrate the completion of the Canada 150 year.

Canadian Heritage invites communities across the country to join together in a nationwide skating party!

Participate in a Canada 150 Skating Day event by joining the Grand Forks Border Bruins on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. There will be free skate rental, goodies and free skating for the entire community. This event is sponsored by the Government of Canada, Grand Forks and District Recreation, and the Grand Forks Border Bruins.

This weekend is a free community skate weekend. Join Telus on Saturday night from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for a free community skate. In addition to free rentals, there will be goodies provided by Telus!

The Grand Forks Aquatic Centre will be celebrating 31 years of the annual Senior Social. This year’s event will take place on Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Come join the Recreation staff for some laughs, festive sing-a-long and some great snacks.

Ultimate Hockey and Skate has generously sponsored the Old Fashion Christmas Community Skate this year on Dec. 14.

The Grand Forks Figure Skating club will be a Christmas performance from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The community skate will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with Santa arriving at approximately 7:30 p.m. The Grand Forks Choral Society will lead the festive sing a-long in the lobby area starting at 7 p.m. Free skating and skate rentals will be available. Free cookies will be provided by Overwaitea and hot chocolate will be provided by Work and Play Clothing Company.

We do ask that you bring a non-perishable item for the local food bank.
