Earlier this month, the Grand Forks Secondary School Wolves boys curling team travelled to New Westminster to participate in the B.C. School Sports Provincial Tournament.

The team is made up of Devin Anderson (skip), Elliott Starchuk (third), Dawson Reid, (second), Ryan Dorgelo and Isaac Horvath, (leads).

The team played seven games over two days against their peers from seven other high schools from across the province.

In the first game, on Thursday morning, March 3, the Wolves struggled to get things going against Centennial from Coquitlam. They rallied late in the game but fell short, losing 8-4.

The second game of the day was against Penticton. The Wolves dominated in this game and won by a score of 9-5. The final game of the day was against Smithers, a team that the Wolves have enjoyed playing in the past. The boys were not able to get anything started in this game. They gave up multiple single scores and lost the game 6-2.

On Friday, the Wolves faced Burnaby North in their first game of the day. Burnaby North played well against the Wolves, who again struggled to build ends. The stolen single points sealed their fate and the Wolves lost again 6-4.

Elgin Park of Surrey was the opposition for the second game. The Wolves were focused on this game and took control, keeping the pressure on Elgin Park throughout. The final score was 9-4 for the Wolves.

The final game on Friday was against Kwalikum Secondary School from Vancouver Island. The Wolves played consistently and easily defeated their opponents by a score of 7-2.

The final game on Saturday morning was against the team from David Thompson of Vancouver. The Wolves played well controlling the game and closing out the tournament with another win. The final score was 9-4.

There were no clear contenders in this year’s competition. The difference between first place and fifth place was one game. The Wolves completed the tournament with a record of four wins and three losses, placing them fifth overall. All the curlers played well and represented their schools and zones admirably.

Team Anderson would like to thank their long-time coach, Dave Bartlett for his many years of dedication to their team.

Team Anderson and all the junior curlers would like to thank the many people and organizations who have supported them this season, including the Grand Forks Curling Club and all its curlers; many friends, family, organizations and non-profits; and the businesses who sponsored to help make the season a success.
