A 47-year old driver from Castlegar was killed in a head-on collision near Blueberry on Friday morning.

The highway between Trail and Castlegar was shut down for 15 hours after a fiery crash between a transport truck and pickup truck occurred that morning minutes before 6 a.m.

In a Monday afternoon news release, police confirmed the driver of the pickup died at the scene.

The driver of the transport truck, a 60-year old from the Trail area, was treated for injuries then transported to hospital for further care.

According to police, both trucks were engulfed in flames post-collision.

The investigation, police confirm, has identified the pickup was travelling north (toward Castlegar) and unexpectedly crossed the centre line of the roadway causing a head-on collision with the transport truck.

Castlegar RCMP are continuing their investigation. Witnesses and anyone with dash-camera footage are asked to contact the Castlegar RCMP 250-365-7721.
