Trail RCMP seeking witnesses to alleged assault during Bruins game

Incident occurred during the March 18 Grand Forks Border Bruins and Beaver Valley Nitehawks game.

RCMP are looking for information regarding an incident at a hockey game in Fruitvale that sent a man to hospital with serious injuries.

Police are looking for more information after a Fruitvale man was seriously injured after an alleged assault involving a Grand Forks man during a hockey game.

Trail and Greater District RCMP stated on March 20, at 1:33 p.m., an officer received a report about a 47-year-old Fruitvale man who was allegedly assaulted during a hockey game at the Beaver Valley Arena at 1777 Green Road, in Fruitvale. The alleged assault occurred during the third period of the hockey game between the Grand Forks Border Bruins and Beaver Valley Nitehawks on March 18, between 7 and 10 p.m.

The dispute between the Fruitvale man and another man from Grand Forks began over the use of an air horn. The matter escalated into a physical fight between the men, said police. 

The Fruitvale man was allegedly violently thrown to the ground and sustained serious injuries as a result. He was transported by BC Emergency Health Services to the hospital for immediate medical attention. He remains in the hospital in serious condition.

The Grand Forks man is believed to be 40-50 years old. Trail RCMP are now looking to speak with the man about the incident.

Trail RCMP continues to investigate.
