Hiking and biking meets poker in Grand Forks

Annual city trails Poker Run brings out dozens for fun and prizes.

Sunday was a perfect day for a hike or bike, with dozens meeting in City Park for a fun game to be played on the city's trail systems in honour of BC Trails Day.

The Grand Forks Trails Society and Kettle River Cycling Association hosted the annual Poker Run, with hikers and cyclists welcome to come explore the city's trail systems and a chance to win prizes. Everyone that registered received a map to stations set up along the trails for participants to visit, get a sheet signed and play an activity to collect an envelope with cards. At the end of the race, envelopes and cards were counted based on hands found in poker. The highest hands received prizes.

It wasn't all competition, though, as people were encouraged to have fun, explore and enjoy the company of fellow outdoor enthusiasts. Everyone was treated to a free BBQ lunch afterwards.
