With temperatures soaring, staff at the Grand Forks and District Public Library are letting the public know there are plenty of activities happening indoors to keep you cool and engaged.

Feeling the burn out there? It’s nice and cool in here! Come enjoy some indoor time at the library this summer. Aside from the obvious (reading), we have puzzles and games, private workspaces, computers, and of course, public washrooms. Sipping an iced coffee? Bring it in with you (just not at the computer).

June is National Indigenous Peoples Month; this year we are excited to present two unique Saturday programs sharing Indigenous knowledge. On June 14, Sinixt Matriarch Marilyn James will join us for a screening of her short film Take It to The Water. Featuring the beautiful Columbia River (əmxʷúlaʔxʷ ) this film explores the Sinixt practice of developing a relationship with water. Followed by a discussion; 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

On June 28, Grandmother Jo White will lead a workshop making medicine pouches and painting shields on rawhide. Learn about the significance of each and how to use them. Don’t miss this chance to gain knowledge and create together. From 10:30 to 12:30.

Thursdays nights are late at the library! We are open until 8 p.m.- it’s a great chance to get some work done or start reading a new book. On the second Thursday of the month we host game night! Adult board games start at 5:30- bring a favorite or play one provided. Nintendo switch for 8-12 year olds is from 6-6:45 p.m., and ages 13-18 from 6:45 – 7:30 p.m. We have Mario Kart, Mario Party, and Just Dance!

The last Thursday of the month is bookclub at 7 p.m. This month we’re reading different genres- there’s no homework, so no excuses! Stop by and share what you’ve been checking out. Bookclub also meets at the lake from 1:30-2:30 on the last Wednesday of the month, same theme, plus beach vibes.

This is just the tip of the iceberg! We have other programs and resources, check out our website or come in for more information. See you soon!
