In the early hours of Friday, Sept. 13, a frontline officer from the Trail and Greater District RCMP responded to a report of an unwelcome black bear inside a residence on the 200 block of Currie Street in Annable.
The homeowner, seeking safety, waited inside his vehicle until the officer arrived.
Upon assessing the situation, the officer opened the front door, allowing the bear to exit the home.
A subsequent inspection revealed the bruin had caused significant damage to the interior after breaking in through a locked back door.
The homeowner has since reinforced the door to prevent future intrusions.
With fall underway, bears are actively searching for food sources to prepare for winter.
“Bears are very strong and motivated to find food,” said Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.
“Please store your garbage securely, pick up fallen fruit in your yard, and secure doors with a good deadlock or barrier to help prevent animal break-ins this fall.”
