The sixth annual Elk Valley Ultra on July 27 has been cancelled in light of the recent death of organizer Abi Moore.

Moore's husband Mike released a statement on Facebook and Instagram confirming her sudden passing on Wednesday, July 17.

"It is with the utmost sadness and heartbreak that I must tell you of the passing of the most incredible human you would have ever had the honour of meeting. Abi Moore tragically passed away suddenly on Wednesday night, and it has not only devastated the ones who loved her most but has left a hole in an entire community of runners and adventurers worldwide," it said.

"Abi lived with the utmost kindness and passion for her family, friends, community, dogs (and not just hers but every dog she ever came across), and as we all know, running in the mountains. I was the luckiest of all and was able to live my life alongside hers for the past 17 years and to be her husband and best friend has been the greatest blessing that I could have ever dreamed of."

Police confirmed on July 23 that Moore was killed in a car collision on July 17 in the Crowsnest Pass, when her SUV met head-on with with a bus just west of Lundbreck.

Moore was the co-founder of Stag Leap Running Co., a non-profit that launched in 2016, dedicated to helping locals stay fit through community races like the Elk Valley Ultra and Lone Wolf Ultra, and a weekly running club.

She participated in the Sinister Seven 148 km Ultra Race in Crowsnest Pass, placing first at the event only one year after she started running, and she was the organizer of the Tears and Gears Race Series, through which she and Mike organized the Soles4Souls shoe drive, to give footwear to people in need around the world.

Stag Leap is encouraging Elk Valley Ultra participants and volunteers to hit the trails on July 27 and raise a pint in memory of Moore.
