The West Kootenay U13C Trail Terminators fast pitch team rolled to a successful end to an epic season this summer.
The Terminators went undefeated throughout the West Kootenay Softball League play, punctuated by a string of successful tournament placements.
The Greater Trail team won gold at the West Kootenay fast pitch tournament in Castlegar in May, then followed that up with a bronze medal earlier this month in a Kelowna tournament against some of the best U13 teams in the province.
“This team of 16 girls from Warfield to Ross Spur surpassed expectation’s the coaches had for them,” said team supporter Sarah Thomas. “There were ups and downs in tournaments but they held strong.
“This team made friends wherever they went with the other teams, cheered on the other teams and really came together all season.”
The Terminators attended the Interior Regionals in Summerland this past week, which included 24 teams from 100 Mile House to Castlegar. The Terminators were among the top eight teams that qualified for the Gold Division playoff and, after the last out was made, finished sixth overall.
The Terminators are coached by Mike Thomas and Travis Douglas with assistants Darrin Kissock and Scott Rhynold and pitching coaches Paige Fennel and Hank Deadmarsh.
The team couldn’t have done it without the support of their coaches, volunteers, parents, and their many sponsors including: AM Ford, Royal Theatre, Castlegar KIA, Glenmerry Bowl, Ferraros, Custom Dozing, Integra Tire, Rock Island RV, Speed Pro Signs, Kurtis No Frills, Fruitvale Co Op, Safeway, Warfield Petro Can, Fortis, and Teck.
“Our community really stepped up to help sponsor our girls with equipment and a fresh uniform,” added Thomas.
“We couldn’t have done it without them.”
