Update from the RCMP:
A Montrose man has been charged with second-degree murder following the death of a Trail woman on Monday, Nov. 4.
Police confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that the Trail RCMP responded to a call in Montrose on Monday regarding a male assaulting a female on the front lawn of a residence.
Upon arrival, RCMP members and personnel from BC Emergency Health Services found Lindsay Christine Danchella suffering from significant injuries.
She was transported to Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, where she died shortly thereafter.
The victim’s estranged husband, 46-year-old Donald James Danchella, was arrested at the scene and taken to the RCMP detachment in Trail, where he was held in custody.
The BC RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit (SED MCU) took over the investigation.
After consultation with Crown Counsel, Donald Danchella was charged on Nov. 4, with the second-degree murder of Lindsay Danchella.
Danchella appeared before a Judicial Justice and was remanded in custody for a court appearance on Nov. 5.
“The securing of charge approval was the culmination of the tireless efforts of investigators from the Southeast District Major Crime Unit, BC RCMP Forensic Identification Services, and members of the Trail RCMP,” said SED MCU Unit Commander, Staff Sergeant Jason Smart.

A Montrose man has been charged following a homicide in the village on Monday (Nov. 4).
On Tuesday afternoon, the BC Prosecution Service confirmed to the Trail Times that Donald James Danchella has been charged with second-degree murder under section 235 of the Criminal Code.
The alleged incident took place on Nov. 4 in Montrose, according to the prosecution.
Danchella appeared before a judicial justice on Monday evening and has been detained under section 515(11) of the Criminal Code.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday at the virtual bail hub from the Kelowna Law Courts.
The investigation, conducted by the Southeast District Major Crime Section of the RCMP, remains ongoing.
No information about the victim has been released.
Sgt. Mike Wicentowich said a RCMP press release would be coming Tuesday afternoon.
