Drivers are advised of another temporary road closure due to avalanche control.

Highway 3 (Crowsnest Highway) will be closed in both directions until 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 13.

The closure will take place between West Avalanche Gate and East Avalanche Gate, for approximately 18 kilometres on Kootenay Pass, while crews conduct necessary avalanche control measures.

An alternate route from Creston to Nelson uses Highway 3A, via the Kootenay Lake Ferry. Estimated travel time is two and a half hours. However, there are currently limited sailings.

Due to the Kootenay Pass closure today, the Kootenay Lake Ferry will make additional essential service sailings, leaving from Balfour at 1:10 p.m., 2:50 p.m., and 4:30 p.m. PST, and from Kootenay Bay at 12:20 p.m., 2 p.m., 3:40 p.m., and 5:20 p.m. PST.

Essential service travellers will board first, followed by the general public. Emergency services will also be accommodated as needed.

Travellers should check road conditions and official travel advisories on www.drivebc.ca before hitting the road.
