A disturbance at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in the early hours of Friday, Feb. 7, resulted in the arrest of a 41-year-old Bridesville man, according to the Trail and Greater District RCMP.
At approximately 1:18 a.m., officers responded to reports of an intoxicated man causing a disturbance in the emergency room after he was denied visitation.
The individual was allegedly yelling at hospital staff and was initially removed from the premises by security.
However, he returned shortly after, prompting law enforcement intervention.
Upon their arrival, officers attempted to take the man into custody, but he allegedly resisted by flailing his body.
With assistance from hospital security, officers were able to safely subdue and arrest him.
The man was then transported to the Trail detachment, where he was lodged in a cell until he sobered up.
Sgt. Mike Wicentowich, of the Trail RCMP, emphasized the importance of maintaining a respectful environment at the hospital.
"Staff have the right to refuse entry to anyone visiting the hospital who poses a safety risk and danger to other staff and guests," he said.
"It is absolutely unacceptable to show up intoxicated and cause a scene.
"Please remember to be patient, respectful, and kind with staff when you visit the hospital."
No injuries were reported in the incident.
Authorities remind the public that disruptive behaviour in healthcare settings will not be tolerated and could result in legal consequences.
