Creston RCMP responded to threats at the local court house this week.

A hostile situation at the Creston Court House this week prompted a swift response by local RCMP officers.

On March 3, a 57-year-old man from Creston went into the court house, located on the 200 block of 10 Ave. N, seeking a change to the conditions he is currently bound by. Once staff explained there is a legal process for such changes, the man became impatient and threatened to return with his firearm.

Sgt. Brandon Buliziuk, detachment commander, said the Creston RCMP take threats to community safety very seriously. And so, they responded immediately to confirm staff and the greater public were secure.

Officers located and arrested the man without incident. He is now being held in custody on an unrelated matter, as the Creston RCMP continue working with BC Prosecution Services on appropriate charges.

“Our officers’ response to this was extremely effective and efficient," said Buliziuk. "I am proud of the response by our personnel and their continued commitment to public safety in the Creston Valley.”

He also thanked the community, BC Sheriff Service, BC Prosecution Service, and Court Services staff for their assistance in the matter.
