Most children draw, on paper, on tablecloths, on walls and through depiction, they are reminding us of our first means of communicating what is inside us. It is also a universal language we can all share.

Zoe’s drawing (right) is an introduction to Art Palette, a new, bi-monthly, column in the Gazette.

The column will be for local artists and will be about art in our community.

It will also provide a gallery, without walls, in which to share art, opinions about art and help art be accessible to all.

Each column will feature a picture of a local artist’s work.

In addition to sharing an artist’s creation, Art Palette also invites the submission of articles up to 400 words, about art, interviews with artists, information about upcoming events, and your comments and thoughts about what interests you about drawing, painting, sculpting, and more.

Art Palette will endeavour to be a source of dialogue, bringing local art into a greater focus in the community.

In this busy, doing, world of ours, perhaps there is a need to acknowledge the healing powers of being still, seeing beauty and encouraging creativity.

Our lives seem fuelled by materialism and the daily media blitz.

Perhaps we could benefit from embracing artistic expression as part of our daily lives. That’s where Art Palette comes in.

To express your ideas, have your artwork featured or become involved in any way, send your submissions to artpalette@hotmail.ca. Your input will be welcome.

This is a new venture and it is hoped that it will flourish in ways that bring local art into a wider focus for everyone in the community – artists and appreciators alike.

The Art Palette is a column written by local artists about art-related issues.
