It’s still a few months away, but Community Futures and the Canada Day Committee are gearing up for this year’s Canada Day celebrations.

On July 1, 2018, the Canada Day Committee will hold the community-wide Canada Day celebration at the Grand Forks City Park. The day will begin with the annual Elk’s Pancake Breakfast, served up hot in city park. Local entertainers will be kicking off the morning and the Grand Forks Canada Day parade will be heading down the streets to greet citizens with community spirit and enthusiasm.

Opening ceremonies will start off the rest of the day’s events with the traditional fanfare: color party and piper’s performances, and the festival will explode with our local artisans and food vendors booths, free birthday cake and watermelon as well as a line-up of fantastic local entertainment. There will be a special kidzone for children featuring games and crafts.

The Canada Day committee will be holding an online contest for community members to come up with a theme for this year’s Canada Day. The theme must be inclusivity oriented. People with ideas are invited to post them on the Community Futures Facebook page on the Canada Day post, and the winner will be this year’s parade Grand Marshal.

The deadline for submission is March 16.

The Canada Day parade is open to all – contact GrandForks BC Parades on Facebook or email gfparades@gmail.com to request a registration form.
