Share your favourite book on International Literacy Day at the Grand Forks and District Public Library

Celebrate International Literacy Day on Sept. 8 by raising awareness of literacy issues at the Grand Forks and District Public Library.

International Literacy Day is Saturday, Sept. 8. This day is celebrated around the world to raise awareness about literacy issues.

The Grand Forks and District Public Library will be hosting a “best-loved” international book exchange to celebrate this important day. Have you read a book that you loved and want to share with someone else? If so, drop by the library between Tuesday, Sept. 4 and Thursday, Sept. 6 to drop off your book and pick one up off our “best-loved” book cart.

On Friday, Sept. 7 we’ll be moving the cart out to the farmers’ market at Gyro Park. Look for us at the literacy booth set up by the Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy (CBAL).

You might find a copy of a fabulous book like The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak (which just happens to be September’s Library Book Club selection). We will also be able to tell you about upcoming programs and events at the library.

CBAL will be starting its Community Learning Place again at the library on Sept. 25 between 2 and 5 p.m. This weekly drop-in program is free and you can receive computer instruction, help filling in forms or documents, prepping for tests, and practicing your reading and math skills. See you at the library!
